| Celebrating conversion
Our lifelong conversion journey is indeed complex. The preparation for
and experiences of the sacraments are normative components of our spiritual
growth — those ritualized moments of conversion and grace. The sacraments
are not the end of an individual’s conversion journey; instead they are
an invitation to continuing conversion of the community celebrating the
rites. In addition to sacramental events, we also experience moments of
grace and conversion in our day-to-day living.
In this issue, we examine some of these moments. Mary Testin’s
article considers how to prepare for and recognize the conversion experience.
Robert Rivers provides insight into conversion through Scripture
and the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults. Robert Hater invites
us to walk with a family and see how God is present in our daily lives
and to learn how core faith rituals impact faith formation. The conclusion
of Steve Hemler’s article addresses the continuing process of conversion
and introduces an idea for a new rite that would celebrate an adult’s ongoing
commitment to conversion. Whether ritualized or otherwise lived, our lifelong
personal journey of faith experiences prepares us to be disciples of Christ
and to be examples for our local and world communities. Through our expression
and invitation, others will also experience and celebrate conversion.LC
