| The Easter season, the great 50 days, calls us as Easter
people to evangelize by service to others. Accounts of the early church
record that Christians were marked by their love for one another. That
love was reflected in service to all, especially those most in need. Invite
those in charge of various ministries to witness to the needs and rewards
of those ministries.
Plan a "Ministry Fair" for after Mass one Sunday. Use brightly colored displays, photos of the ministries in action, and already-active ministers to inform and invite. Invite the sponsors of the neophytes or other volunteers to mentor the neophytes in one of the ongoing parish ministries. Highlight various ministry opportunities in the parish newsletter or weekly bulletin. Finally, remember that the most effective way to involve people is by personal invitation. Many people are well-intentioned procrastinators who never get around to volunteering. A personal invitation is harder to refuse. Once involved, most people are grateful for the opportunity to help others. |
