WORSHIP

by Gerard Scheuermann
The liturgy teaches the journey of the people of God. It ties together the story of the church. In the rites of our church, the meaning of Jesus' message and the call to discipleship can be found. The rites dealing with the elect in Lent are especially rich.

Try adapting some of the rites to the classroom to allow children to experience "close up" their meaning. During Lent, do a simplified scrutiny based on the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults. Or do a simplified presentation of the Creed and the Our Father, also found in the RCIA. Having this experience in the classroom can bring alive the meaning of the rites experienced in the assembly. The children will be more deeply connected to the rituals.
