WORSHIP

by Wanda Scheuermann

This is the time when people are returning from vacations. Schools, religious formation programs, social and family ministries are starting anew. Inquirers and new parishioners are searching for deeper connections. Liturgically we celebrate the Rite of Welcome and Commissioning Rites. Luke's readings for this season call us to reach out beyond ourselves.

The General Directory for Catechesis challenges us to be an ongoing, evangelizing community. How well does our worship create an experience of that welcoming evangelization?

Why not suggest an evaluating/visioning meeting with the ministerial leaders of your parish? Invite representatives from the liturgical, catechetical, pastoral and social ministries along with the pastor and representatives from the parish school. With the emphasis on a welcoming, evangelizing liturgy, prayerfully critique the worship experience in the areas of hospitality, participation, connectedness as a worshiping community, and openness to the spirit. As a team, choose one goal and two tasks to achieve your evangelizing goal. Keep the tasks simple and achievable before November. Invite each team to involve their ministries in the liturgical goal and tasks. Plan another evaluating/visioning meeting in November.
