SERVICE

by Liz Montes, Editor, CTL
During the Easter season, we hear the stories of the early church community. What about your parish story? Invite an intergenerational team to look at ways to celebrate the history, the struggles, the growth of your parish.

Ask the youth to interview on tape the senior members of the parish about the early years. Some could visit parishioners in nearby convalescent hospitals and record their memories, assuring them that they are still treasured members of the parish family. The children of the parish might enjoy working on a history mural, illustrating significant events that surface.

Ask parishioners to share their photos of parish events: building the church, baptisms, festivals, missions, service projects, Christmas pageants. Ask them to include any memories they have of the event. Serve refreshments while people gather after Mass to explore and enjoy.

Each week in the bulletin, publish memories from a different decade, and encourage responses.

At the end of the season, put together a time capsule. Include articles from your history fest and wishes for the future members of your parish. Host a parish prayer service to conclude the history fest.
