| Summer is upon us. Make it the focus of worship to underscore
the wonder and sacredness of the ordinary parts of our lives. St. Paul
sets the tone for us when he writes, “The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ
and the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with all of
you.” To help the parish family feel this blessing, try some of the following.
Before Sunday worship, ask the presider, as he welcomes the people, to summarize the Gospel theme and give one or two reflection questions to consider. Try a summer choir. Give your regular choirs a rest and invite anyone who wishes to show up early to practice. Keep the music simple and affirm the efforts of all. For the feast of the Body and Blood of Christ, invite people to bake communion bread together for this special day. Recipes are available at most diocesan offices. Play meditative music and begin and end with prayer. Try a weekly meditation hour. Many people yearn for meditation prayer but don’t feel confident about it. Provide a prayerful atmosphere and a simple guided meditation to get them started. Offer evening prayer. Invite all ages. Use a variety of readers and simple worship aids. Invite spontaneous intercessions. Let the ritual speak for itself. |
