Description:

The main materials for the church walls are ground faced cream-colored masonry. The surfaces have been ground to expose the natural aggregates and give the masonry a granite-like appearance. Glass openings at "bends" in the church walls allow natural light into the building. The exposed heavy tember beams of the roof structure echo the timbers use in boats, a reference to the fishing occupation of the early apostles. The nave roof is low at the entrace and rises to a high point over the sanctuary platform. The entrance doors, baptismal font, altar, crucifix, main aisle and tabernacle are all on one axis. The pews are in a semi-circular arrangement to focus on the main elements to reinforce the principal focal point of the ritual action while conveying a feeling of community and involvement. The baptismal font is at the entrance to the nave of the building, symbolizing our entry into the community through the waters of baptism. There are two upper pools of water from which to bless oneself upon entering the building.
