A LOOK A ML
August 1996

Computers, software, and the internet are the focus of the August issue of ML. In honor of the electronic bent of this issue, several of the articles will be posted at the ML website .

Paul Bombardier, who monitors the RCIA section of the Catholic forum on AOL has written "Overcoming Road Blocks to a Year-Round Catechumenate." I met Paul online, and all our correspondence, including his final draft, we sent by e-mail.

Another online contact, Richard Oliver, wrote "Where to Find Liturgical Information Online." Richard is the founder and webmaster of the Benedictine website . Be sure to drop into his page for an amazing array of information. There is a link to his site from the ML site.

The third article posted on the web is "The On-ramp to Faith: An Interview with a Cyber-vangelist." The "cyber-vangelist" is Angela Ann Zuckowski. She is the director f r religious communication at Dayton University and has been involved in "electronic catechesis" from the early days of cable television. She says if the church is not present on the 'net, it will cease to be relevant.

Also included in the August issue, but not posted online, is our annual "Church Software Guide." Included this year is a listing of newsgroups you might wish to subscribe to.

And, for the low-tech readers, the August issue also features a pictorial and essay on what to look for when buying vestments. Designer Josephine Niemann describes how to get the rite garb for your space.

ML begins a new department this month also. The new section is called "ML Tips," and it will deal with all things practical in the liturgy. The debut column discusses everything you ever wanted to know about candles.

Every month ML's pages are filled with helpful advice from our regular columnists. The Planning Guide authors provide background in spirituality, ritual planning and music for Ordinary Time. Lectors get help from the "Lector Workshop, and the Year of Matthew is always a help for homilists and catechists. Also included monthly in ML are reviews of current books, audio- visuals, and music. There is much more to enjoy; take a look!

MODERN LITURGY is a professional magazine for members of the parish ministry team. It is dedicated to exploring the connection between liturgy and life, unpacking the treasures of the Roman liturgy, and helping ministers use the visual, musical, lively, poetic, and environmental arts to shape liturgies to their local culture.
