| Back in gear
Summer is over and it feels like we should be getting back into the
swing of things. More meetings, more people around, more activity. This
is a good time to think about training, forming and updating those in the
parish who are responsible for the liturgy.
This issue of ML is especially helpful for forming the ministers of
your parish. Wanda and Gerard Scheuermann provide a helpful overview for
catechists to help them become stronger leaders in the parish (Leadership
skills for catechists). Todd Flowerday, in his review of two of the
standard liturgical music documents, gives guidance to musicians and all
who are concerned about good worship (page 10 of the printed edition of
ML). ML’s assistant editor, Ray Valido, focuses on the primary minister
of the liturgy — the assembly — with tips for encouraging more active participation
and singing (page 16). The Cistercian monks of the Holy Rood Guild provide
some fine examples of vestments that can inspire the art and environment
members of your community (page 6), and Diana Kaulback shows how music
can be used to catechize the parish throughout the year about the climax
of our worship life — the Easter Triduum (page 12).
Success stories
In ML’s upcoming December issue the editors are planning to print some
success stories about liturgy. If you have experienced a particularly memorable
liturgy in the last year, think about sharing your thoughts and feelings
about it with the rest of ML’s readers. Take a minute to write 100–250
words about the best liturgy you participated in this year and post it
on the ML discussion board at www.rpinet.com/wwwboard/forum1/.
Or send your thoughts to me the old-fashioned way at ML, 160 E. Virginia
St. #290, San Jose, CA 95112.
Corrections
The Planning Checklist in the August issue (ML 26:6) incorrectly noted
the dates for Epiphany and the Fourteenth Sunday of Ordinary Time. The
correct dates are: Epiphany, Jan. 2, 2000; Fourteenth Sunday, July 9, 2000.
In the same issue the web site for The Software Library was listed incorrectly.
The correct address is www.SoftwareLib.com.
