| Going
underground?
Dear
Editor:
Thanks
for your insightful article with regard to the Tridentine sacramental theology
of the Roman church (ML 27:7, “Sacramental Revolution”). I note for you
that when you apply the same postmodern philosophical template to the latest
GIRM (General Instruction of the Roman Missal), it becomes less
an issue of “table manners” and more about how the Roman hierarchy is entrenching
their position on who are the “real” priests (instead of recognizing one
Priest and one priesthood). Without even discussing the language and intent
on tabernacle placement in this document (in terms of the “doing” of sacrament,
as you put it), the Roman church seems to be going underground from postmodernism
now just as during the Enlightenment. In a postmodern world, nobody “owns”
sacrament, and it is on that territory the Roman hierarchy will not give
ground easily.
It
took nearly 300 years for the Roman church to re-emerge from the Enlightenment
with the prophetic movement of the Second Vatican Council. How many years
will it take the Roman hierarchical church to re-emerge their heads from
the sands of restorationism and finally live (love?) the Gospel of inclusivity;
not rule by the judgment and compartmentalization of the roles we have
in our journey towards God?

Breathtaking
resurrection
Dear
Editor,
I loved
the baptismal font by Gregory M. Davis in the Visual Arts Awards in your
September issue (ML 27:7). However, I found “Resurrection” by Jerzy S.
Kenar to be mind-boggling, breathtaking, absolutely unique and wonderful.
I wish it had won best of show.
