This photo,
shared by Sharon R. Takerer, illustrates a teaching tool she developed
for faith formation at St. Joseph’s Parish, Tucson. The symbols of the
major feasts and holy days are crafted out of foam core in approximately
three-inch sizes and placed on the corresponding week of the year.
1. The
outer band of 52 segments teaches the meaning of the colors and celebrations
of the liturgical year.
2. The
center band of gold reveals 52 international faces intended to communicate
the universality of the Catholic Church.
3. The
inner circle is a rendering of the communion of saints. In the heavens
the saints gaze down to earth. Three golden forms joined in prayer look
heavenward. They represent the living on earth connected to the saints
in prayer. Their golden appearance is to convey the message that our lives
are our golden opportunities to live as God intended with the assistance
of heaven. The green hills emphasize the gift of life. Below the figures
a simple human form lies in the rich brown earth.
With
each passing year, the colors of the weeks may be adjusted with “wedge
mats” of the appropriate liturgical color. Sharon would be happy to send
along enlargements of the inner mural on request.ML
