The candle stand predominantly
uses materials present in the other worship furnishings. The garden setting
of the church building lends itself to natural materials and imagery. The
white purity of the stone stands in contrast to the rough texture of the
bronze. The hardness of stone and bronze contrast with the warmth of the
cherry wood staff. The final touch is the blown-glass fruit.
The symbolism of the design
is the incarnation of the Paschal Lamb in the New Jerusalem. The base is
square, symbolizing the four corners of the earth. On this is a sphere,
the traditional symbol of the heavens. From this base rises the staff of
Jesse with a fruit and new leaf form wrapped around the staff, a reference
to Eden and Revelation 22:4
