“Liturgical Catechesis” NEW NEWSLETTER SHOWS HOW THE LITURGY CATECHIZESResource Publications, Inc., has launched a newsletter designed to help parish teams do a better job of catechizing all age groups.Called Liturgical Catechesis, the newsletter assumes that catechesis proceeds from worship. “Whether liturgy is done well or poorly, it catechizes,” says Nick Wagner, editor of the newsletter. “If you teach children in a classroom setting that God loves them and then give them a mean-spirited liturgy, they will not learn that God loves them. On the other hand, if you bore them in the classroom but give them vibrant, loving liturgies, they will come to know that God loves them.” This gives the parish DRE a stake in making sure that liturgies are well done, says Wagner, and it gives the liturgist a key role in catechizing everyone in the parish. “Liturgical catechesis tends to unify the parish team.” The newsletter takes a consultative approach, focusing on one aspect of implementing liturgical catechesis within a parish in every issue. (For example, an early issue focused on “Avoiding Turf Wars”). In addition, sidebars on “Word,” “Worship,” “Community,” and “Service” provide seasonal tips. Liturgical Catechesis is available for an annual subscription rate of
$24.00 a year (four issues). No-risk trial subscriptions can be ordered
by calling 888-273-7782 toll-free between 8 and 5 Pacific Time.
