Liturgy and Catechesis Find Common Ground in Ministry & Liturgy Magazine

SAN JOSE, Calif., Sept. 2, 2005 — Liturgical Catechesis magazine has taken a new turn after more than three years as a newsletter and another four years as a magazine. Responding to the need for an integrated approach to all aspects of community formation and worship, the editors at Resource Publications will merge two magazines into one under the banner of Ministry & Liturgy.

ML will welcome LC’s faith-formation focus into its pages and thus advance its position as a primary, comprehensive resource for all members of parish ministry teams — whether pastoral, catechetical, or liturgical. As the flagship periodical of Resource Publications for more than 30 years, ML seeks to create dialogue and support connections between the different ministries, disciplines, and ideologies in the church. ML will add faith-formation content with the same integrated approach. As church leaders explore new models of faith formation — intergenerational, whole-community, life-long, and centered in liturgy — they can rely on ML to cover developing perspectives and practices.

Readers of both magazines will appreciate the breadth and depth of information now available in one resource instead of two. While liturgically grounded faith formation has always been a part of ML, the “new” ML will increase its page count to accommodate two new columns per issue, plus it will devote one annual issue to whole-community faith formation. Changes will begin to appear with the November 2005 issue, and will be developed throughout 2006.

ML editor Donna M. Cole sees this melding of the two magazines as a powerful moment in the evolution of liturgical-catechetical dialogue: “This moment marks the turning point where those who do the real work of ministry choose to break down the walls that divide them. The ‘new’ ML is made for them.”

ML’s advertising community will benefit from a broader audience, greater circulation, and increased promotional efforts. ML’s frequency (10 times per year), advertising rates, and subscription rates will not change. LC subscribers will receive individualized letters informing them of specific procedures affecting their subscription.

Always evolving, ML remains the “go to” magazine for timely conversation and creative ideas for all areas of parish ministry. For more information, contact Kathy Truman at the number above.
