New book offers nine community-wide faith formation days!

SAN JOSE, Calif., Oct. 17, 2006 — The editors of Celebrating The Lectionary — a whole-life, whole-community faith formation series — have just published a spinoff book entitled FaithDays!  A FaithDay is a community-wide event in which participants of all ages gather to build community, pray, and share in a variety of small-group activities geared toward a range of interests and abilities. “The goal of the FaithDays is to provide the community with exciting and dynamic faith formation experiences that help them prepare for full, conscious, and active participation in the sacredness of life” (from the Introduction). In other words, connecting liturgy to life has never been so easy!

FaithDays! offers nine doctrinally solid and completely engaging faith formation events focused on the seasons and holy days of the liturgical year: Faith and Tradition (September); Celebration of Mary (October); Communion of Saints (November); Advent (December); Reign of God (January); God’s Love (February); Reconciliation (March); Church (April); Pentecost (May). The approach captures the essence of Bishop Donald Trautman’s keynote address at the 2005 Los Angeles Religious Education Congress: “Learn the liturgy. Love the liturgy. Live the liturgy. That is the church’s way to catechize contemporary Christians.”

Ready-to-use checklists and session plans will save ministry leaders loads of time otherwise spent on “inventing the day.” The sessions are packed with engaging activities that require a minimum of planning and preparation. Every faith community looking to deepen the spirituality of its members and strengthen their relationships with God and each other needs these FaithDays!
