Sacred Scripture deserves powerful
proclaiming!
SAN JOSE, Calif., February 15, 2006 — It’s here — a new book that will
help you engage your community in Scripture! Stop Reading and Start Proclaiming!
promises two things: It will give those who proclaim Scripture new
skills to help them become better storytellers, and it will result in a
greater understanding of Scripture by the gathered faithful.
Written in an engaging style, this manual moves the reader from basic
instruction on how to use voice and posture to more advanced instruction
on how to embody the text. The skills covered begin with basic techniques
for the beginner and progress to detailed, yet simply explained, directions
for all proclaimers. The author’s style is practical and lighthearted
— yet never loses sight of the importance of spiritual preparation and
reverence in this ministry.
“How I wish all of us had devoured Douglas Leal’s book on the proclamation
of the word of God before standing up in the assembly to exercise this
important ministry. His reflections on proclaiming God’s word are simple,
practical, wise, and pastorally sensitive. I highly recommend this
book for all who proclaim God’s word, for all who seek to do so, and for
all who teach them.” — Father Wilfred Raymond, national director, Family
Theater Productions, Hollywood, Calif.
“This Volume ought to find a place on the shelves of everyone who proclaims
the word. Those who proclaim the word and those who prepare them for this
ministry will be able to reap great benefits from Stop Reading and Start
Proclaiming! Yet it is the assembly gathered to hear God’s word proclaimed
who will surely benefit the most. They deserve no less.” - Gil Ostdiek,
OFM, professor of liturgy, Catholic Theological Union, Chicago
Douglas Leal is a professional actor, director, and management consultant
who has worked many years as a liturgical planner, coordinator, and trainer
on a volunteer basis for churches in New Orleans, Chicago, and Los Angeles.
He received a BA in psychology at Loyola University New Orleans and is
