New book helps DREs introduce liturgical catechesis to parishes

SAN JOSE, Calif., May 24, 2002 — Resource Publications, Inc. announces the release of Introducing Liturgical Catechesis: Formation Sessions for the Parish, the latest tool for strengthening and exploring the methods of using liturgical catechesis in the parish.

Author Nick Wagner, writes, “One of the distinctive features of liturgical catechesis is that it necessarily involves the entire community. Use this book to spark your imagination, your hopes, your possibilities. Use it with others to draw them into the conversation ... to begin to dream about how your parish can become an exciting, vibrant community dedicated to bringing people into communion and intimacy with Jesus.”

The content of the book addresses the head catechist of the parish, or the director of religious education (DRE), and includes discussion questions at the end of each chapter.  The questions can be used to increase community participation in the search for new ideas on how to improve the catechetical process in the parish. For those parishes where liturgical catechesis is a relatively new practice, parish leaders can also use the sessions to do a basic introduction and immersion in its concepts and methods with the entire pastoral team.

Each chapter draws upon the rites of the church and the General Directory for Catechesis for an ecclesial foundation.  All training sessions are photocopiable.
