MARK
Visionary of Early Christianity Leonard Doohan Paper, $10.95 192 pages, 5½” x 8½” ISBN 0-89390-261-6 |
This book presents Mark as a daring church figure who challenged the accumulating early traditions about Jesus. The author notes that Mark questions the authority of church leaders in his times and presents Jesus as the Son of God who was also an angry, impatient and critical human being. Doohan characterizes Marks Gospel as one of the most powerful narratives in the history of Western civilization, as well as a work that could be enjoyed simply for its literary qualities.
Review
Sound spirituality that issues directly from a most important source of
Christian living, the New Testament, is always needed. When it also
addresses the contemporary historical context, it is truly a blessing. These
books speak to everyone who is in touch with life and with Christ as we find
him in the New Testament and as we find him living in the church
today.
Eugene LaVerdiere, author, The New Testament in the Life
of the Church
