Sunday Morning

Leader: How wonderful are your works, O Lord!

All: In wisdom you have made them all!

Leader: All praise be yours, O Lord, through the light of heaven.

All: Glory and praise for ever!

The Storyteller: In the beginning, when God created the heavens and the earth, the earth was a formless void and darkness covered the face of the deep, while a wind from God swept over the face of the waters. Then God said, “Let there be light” and there was light. And God saw that the light was good; and God separated the light from the darkness. God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And there was evening and morning, the first day (Gen 1:1–5).

Psalm 104:1–4
Canticle of the Three Young Men
(Dan 3:56,72,73)

Solo: I will bless you, Lord my God!
You fill the world with awe.
You dress yourself in light,
in rich, majestic light.

All: You stretched out the sky like a tent,
built your house beyond the rain.
You ride upon the clouds,
the wind becomes your wings,
the storm becomes your herald,
your servants, bolts of light.

Solo: Bless God beyond the stars.

All: Give praise and glory.

Solo: Bless God, light and darkness.

All: Give praise and glory.

Solo: Bless God, lightning and clouds.

All: Give praise and glory.

All: Glory to the Father, and to the Son,
and to the Holy Spirit:
as it was in the beginning, is now,
and will be for ever. Amen.

Scripture Reading: 2 Corinthians 4:5–6

Reader: A reading from the second Letter of Saint Paul to the Corinthians.

We do not proclaim ourselves; we proclaim Jesus Christ as Lord and ourselves as your slaves for Jesus’ sake. For it is the God who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” who has shown in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

The word of the Lord.

All: Thanks be to God.

Silent Reflection

Response to the Reading

All: O gracious Maker, God of light,
You gave us light that we might see
The wonders of the world you made
By your own will and wise decree.

We thank you for the sunlight bright,
Sustaining life and growth on earth.
We thank you for the light of grace
Which by your love gave us new birth.

Almighty Father, hear our cry
Through Jesus Christ, our Lord most high,
Whom in the Spirit we adore,
Who reigns with you forevermore. Amen.

Intercessions

Leader: Jesus Christ is light from light, the Son of God who dispels the darkness of our hearts and minds. In his name let us pray for:

Our family
Our relatives
Our neighbors
Our friends
Our parishioners

Let us pray as Christ, the King of all creation, has taught us:

All: Our Father ...

Prayer

By the leader or by all:

Lord God, source of heaven’s glory,
be with us throughout this day
which you have made your own.
Fill us with your light in Jesus Christ,
so that we may see and love our world
as you do.
We ask this through the same Christ our Lord. Amen.

Blessing

Leader: May the God of infinite goodness
scatter the darkness of sin and
brighten our hearts with holiness.

All: Amen.

A sign of peace may be exchanged.
