The Peer Counselor's Pocketbook, now out of print, contained the same basic information as The Peer Helper's Pocketbook. It was the original edition, which was written by consultant Joan Sturkie and peer counselor Valerie Gibson for those involved in peer counseling programs (ISBN: 0-89390-162-8).
About the Authors
Joan Sturkie is a nationally recognized author and peer counseling consultant. She is a former high school counselor and peer counseling teacher. Her other books include Listening with Love: True Stories from Peer Counseling (which has a companion teacher's guide), Christian Peer Counseling: Love in Action, coauthored with Gordon Bear and The Peer Counselor's Pocket Book, coauthored with Valerie Gibson. She is a popular motivational speaker for conventions, workshops and parents' groups.
Valerie Gibson, a former student of Sturkie's, has a degree in urban studies. She received the Outstanding Peer Counselor of the Year Award when she was a high-school senior. Her experience in working with today's young people has given her a keen insight into their needs. She is also the recipient of the 1985 Essertier Creative Writing Award.
