Here is a practical manual on mysticism that you can use in your own life or
in small groups. Graham Smith outlines a simple meditation technique, using
60 sacred words from various religious traditions. Using each word in your
meditation practice integrates body and soul, the conscious and
unconscious. This book offers a fresh angle: the integration of Christian and
non-Christian spirituality within the context of prayer.
Review
Since Vatican II there has been greater openness to non-Christian
religions at an intellectual level. This book offers a fresh angle: the
integration of Christian and non-Christian spirituality within the context of
prayer. It is a prayer book in the true sense of the word: not a book about
prayer or a collection of prayers, but a single, progressive exercise in
meditative prayer. It is designed to meet the needs felt today by a wide
range of people inside and outside the churches. Prayer Words is
designed to be used by an individual alone, or by a conductor of a
one-to-one or group retreat, or by the leader of a group meeting for worship
or corporate meditation. Material from it can be selected and adapted for
these various purposes. An inspiring and thoughtful presentation of the
subject of prayer and meditation: satisfying and useful!
