SUNDAY'S CHILDREN
Prayers in the Language of Children
James Bitney and
Suzanne Schaffhausen
Cloth, $5.95
65 pages, 6” x 9”
ISBN 0-89390-076-1

Quantity:

These children’s prayers are ideal both in the classroom and in the home. The authors wrote these prayers to give children a feel for talking to God naturally, which encourages their own spontaneous prayer. This is a great resource for teachers, librarians and parents.

About the Author

Author James Bitney has a master’s degree in sacramental theology from St. Paul’s Seminary and a counseling certificate from the University of Minnesota. He has published numerous articles for various publications, including Ministry & Liturgy, and is the author of four books and two computer programs. Bitney is also a regular contributor to Homily Service, published by the Liturgical Conference, and is a member of the Archdiocesan Worship Board. With Sunday’s Children, Bitney hopes to give children a prayer/worship book that speaks to their real life. “I wanted to help them recognize that a life of gathering, remembering, sharing, thanking and caring was the Christian life, the life marked by Sunday, and the life Sunday celebrates in sacrament.”

Artist Suzanne Schaffhausen, a graduate from the University of Minnesota with a degree in child psychology, finds that children play an important role in her art. She seeks in her illustrations to “point indirectly to the holiness of living,” and likes to gather ideas for her drawings while observing children at play in parks or attending school. Schaffhausen also teaches fifth grade at Christ the King School in Minneapolis.
