Sacramental Register 4.0 Update InstructionsThis page was updated on 17 June 2005
The changes and new features for every release and update of Sacramental Register are explained in response to the first question on the Frequently Asked Questions page for Sacramental Register 4.0. This page is accessible on the web at www.rpinet.com/sr4faqs.html. The update itself is also available on this website at www.rpinet.com/products/sacrg4.html. Here is how to proceed to obtain and install the update. 1. Launch Sacramental Register 4.0. Go to the File menu. At the bottom of the drop-down list that appears, you will find the complete path and file name for one or more sets of your data files. Please note these complete paths on a piece of paper. 2. If you have not already done so, this would be a good time to create a backup of your data files. You will find complete, step-by-step directions and a suggested approach to making backups here. 3. Obtain the customer key for Sacramental Register 4.0. It was sent to you with version 4.0, and you will need it to finish the installation of the update. 4. Go to Start | Settings | Control Panel | Add/Remove Programs. Find Sacramental Register 4.0 in the list presented. Highlight it, and click on Add/Remove. Doing this will remove the program and the demonstration zzzzzzz0.adt data files, but it will NOT remove any of your data files. 5. Connect to the internet and surf to www.rpinet.com/products/sacrg4.html. Scroll down to where it says to click to download a demo of Sacramental Register 4.0. Click on this link and follow the instructions to download a copy of the updated demo. Save the download in an otherwise empty folder, preferably not on the desktop. 6. Once the download is complete, Start | Run | Browse to the folder and select the downloaded file, which should have the name SR4Demo.exe. Run this file. 7. Step 6 unpacks several files for an installation kit and then launches the installation process. Follow the screens along to install the updated demo. 8. Once installation is complete, you will find a Sacramental Register icon on your desktop. Double click on the program icon to launch the program. Enter the customer key when prompted for it, and then re-enter the parish name and address. Do this carefully, because this is the information that displays on the printed certificates. 9. With Sacramental Register running, go to the Help menu, and select About Sacramental Register. In the box that opens, you should see evidence that you have opened field update 4.03. 10. With Sacramental Register running, go to the File menu, and select Open Existing Files. In the open dialog that appears, browse to the file that is at the path you noted in step 1. Click open. The next time you launch SacReg, this file will appear at the bottom of the file menu. 11. Finally, take a "Sharpie" pen, or some tape that can be written on, and mark on the CD for Sacramental Register 4.0 (on the CD itself, not just the case), that the CD is no longer to be used to install or reinstall the Sacramental Register program. Instead, the downloaded update should be used. If you wish to make a CD with the download on it, that CD should replace the now outdated CD that was originally shipped.
