Doesn't matter what the feast day is. That doesn't matter. It's all about wearing the cappa magna and the attention it brings to the Archbishop of Malta, which I'm sure he enjoys.

It just reminds me of the "dress-up" some of these pastors of HBC (Historic Black Churches ) and not so HBC places who like to take bits and pieces of these outfits and trappings.
Our pastor just met one of them last week, who is pastor of one of the largest of these "personality driven" churches. A few years ago, he had a revelation that the Holy Spirit wanted him to be a bishop, so this guy goes out and buys what he thinks is a bishop's outfit. Really a Monsignor type outfit but it is "to die for:", insists that he be referred to as "Your Eminance" etc...
When I asked our pastor her impression of this guy, very uncharacteristically she said "He is a self important horses a**", first time in 7 months I ever heard her use any slang!
Hey, if dress up is your thing, why not? Just a bunch of left-over junk from an imperialistic church in my thought.

When I stand before God at the end of my life, I would hope that I would not have a single bit of talent left and could say, "I used everything you gave me."

The return of this silliness is a result of the return of the traditionalists. Knock yourselves out guys. I'm pretty sure that Jesus is laughing along with us. It's novelty to some people, nostalgia to others. It will go away, again.

Your banjo/guitar/hootenany/clown/liturgical dance/clap happy Mass is what's going away, Anne.

You have been on these boards long enough that you should know that is not the style of liturgy that i promote. There you go exaggerating again.
Haven't been to a banjo/guitar mass in 35 years or so, although I have heard some beautiful classical guitar at a few liturgies...Don't know what a hootenany mass is....never seen a clown at mass...but I do like the idea of clap happy.
On the other hand...I do appreciate chant as long as everyone can sing and understand it. Full, conscious active participation is still the goal. That has not changed.
If a printed worship aid is provided with translations of Gregorian Propers, how is anyone participating less in that action (sung by the choir) than they are participating when the Deacon reads or sings the Gospel?
Agree with Anne...no surprise. You really tend to exaggerate everything. You just don't get it...FCAP...our ideal is to promote congregational singing. However, I really believe that you, like the picture of altar server holding the long, flowing, thing-a-ma-gig the priest is wearing, no, scratch that, is playing dress-up in, like the spot light on you and your action, period. "Hail, Holy Queen?" I laugh, but it is really, really sad.
