The article on the Cathedral of Christ the Light, by Leo Keegan. IMO, a wonderful example of creative use of light and environment, & symbolism. I have to admit though, the first impression from the aerial view is a football stadium, but the inside is described beautifully. Also, Leo Keegan at the Cathedral is listed as dir of docent, is he the "chief tour guide"?????? Must be a church office I missed in my studies. Comments about the Cathedral? Anyone been there?
The second article,, Bridge Work, "Mind Manners" by Fr Raab, is a good, if not short, insight into dealing with those that live with mental illness and some basic rules in dealing with this disease. Having worked within this field, I forget for the average lay person it can be a strange and scary encounter. I wish more such material was available for ALL the helping professions, police included.
Lastly,, under Ritual Foundations, by Fr. Henson , he discusses EP's. One caught my attention, the EP for reconciliation, under "For Various Needs and Occasions", he describes it is available as a booklet, pending the release of the revised English Edition of the Roman Missal, any idea on how to get this????? I checked the USCCB site, and if it is there, I can't find it. Thanks for any help.
Finally ( I know, I said lastly ) how about "in conclusion", why are so many authors who are ordained, always minus the collar in their picture, excepting those in religious orders it seems.

There are two. They've been around many years - they were issued in a supplement to the Sacramentary.

There were also two lovely EPs composed for the 2000 Jubilee Year, which I never encountered in action, sad to say (I did provide the texts to our liturgy committee and rector at the time). But they were not approved for use beyond the Jubilee.

Yes, good basic information, especially for inner city parishes. Re someone who becomes agitated or acts out during liturgy...I never would have thought about giving the person space so that he/she doesn't feel threatened. Don't touch the person.
Don't try to reason. Speak clearly but softly "Lets go outside" or "Come back tomorrow". Let the person leave calmly, don't block exits.
I admire Fr. Raab very much. He sees the face of Christ in the poor daily in his ministry. He admits that by working among the suffering he has learned to let go of expectations, authority and power related to his priesthood.

Haven't been to Oakland Cathedral yet, but if I go to the CRCCM meeting next January, that is one of the locations for the week. I do know that the music program there is being started from scratch, and that a four manual/94 stop Letourneau is being installed by the end of this year. Acoustics are reputed to be superb...

The Cathedral of Christ the Light is magnificent. I like Randy was first reminded of a sports stadium. However after reading the article you come to appreciate the art, the symbolism, the theology present. "The Cathedral of Christ Our Light uses light to symbolize the movement of salvation history from the beginning of time to the renewal of all creation in Jesus Christ."
I would love to visit and study all the symbolism.

| Augsburg Boy wrote on Fri, 01 May 2009 18:10 | If I am reading the article correctly, it would seem an image of Christ is created through the use of light, yes? Some of the pictures seem to show that, and it is truly magnificent. And further looking at the arial view one does see the fish symbol.
Good to hear about the organ too. Though I do not know of that company or their work, and again, the acoustics must be beautiful given the building materials. Lucky people in Oakland.

I love the design as well and would love to work in such an environment. Like you all, the aerial view on the cover raised a question immediately, "this is ML, why do they have a football stadium on the cover; even the top is a football icon." Then my mind proceeded to think, "are they comparing Catholic churches with this one, perhaps a Pentecostal cathedral of sorts?" Now, I want to learn more about it, hear the organ and choir sing in it. Yes, the icon of Christ is made of glass in such a way that the light shines through it creating the image...masterful.
Peace,
Ron

I have not played or heard one live, but I have glowing reports from a colleague (one who is quite picky, LOL). They look fabulous on paper, both visually and in the specifications.
