I've not read the book, but I welcome someone like Prothero - who media people often look to as a plausible talking head on religion issues - deconstructing the facile and silly idea of a grand convergence of spiritualities (let along religions).
I recall, over 20 years ago, hearing none other than the Rev Kim Crawford Harvey pronounce from the pulpit of Boston's Arlington Street Church - the Vatican of Unitarian Universalism, where one would expect paeans to such a grand convergence - that it is a huge disservice to all people to gloss over and blur and wish away the significant differences among the many spiritualities and religions of the world's peoples. I've always remembered that when I've encountered Catholics who strive for a lowest common denominator approach to instruction of seekers and in ecumenism generally.
