Crucial statement above. Among the many priests I've kinown, one, I believe, had it right. He feels that "celibacy" is a gift, that only a mature and well adjusted person comfortable in his own sexuality, was able to accept. He was one of those rare individuals who accepted the gift!

And it is too simplistic to lay all these problems on the celibate rule. It's a piece, of a very complex issue. But the sadness is, I see no brave or courageous individuals in the Church Leadership addressing it, talking about it. I see claims being paid, some support given to victims, but in the meantime, most bishops are fiddling around as if it is business as usual.
Or entrench into rigidity and impose the rules.

Really quite sad.
