You probably know and have the highest respect for him. --Class, this is what is known as "bait". The person laying the bait anticipates that I will read this and respond with an injured tone or better yet, make some kind of similar statement towards the "baiter" thereby engaging him in a pointless argument. "Bait" ideally results in the trading of insults where the baiter gets to display his proficiency with sarcasm and alleged wit. (see "battle of wits with an unarmed opponent" for more information) Bait is usually laid after the baiter has been exposed as lacking in any logical defense of his stance on a particular subject in the hopes of drawing the baitee away from the actual discussion. --Unfortunately, in this case the baiter has missed the reality that we are, for the most part, in agreement. Sexual abuse by priests must stop and it must stop now. It should have been stopped long before this. Bishops and everyone else in the hierarchy must be held accountable for the priests they manage and the lay people they are supposed to be shepherding in the faith. We are in disagreement regarding what causes someone to become a sexual abuser. We are also in disagreement as to how to effectively make it stop. --Since neither one of us is in a position to make any of these decisions, I can be content with the disagreement as well as with leaving the bait untouched (especially since I have no idea who he's talking about).
