Although my initial reaction the stained glass and other artwork in the cathedral was similar to yours,(due more to the juxtaposition of the styles than the styles themselves) I have come to apreciate them for their contextual place in the history of the Church and especially this Archdiocese. The generation of artisans and parishoners that created these works of art, did so in a spirit of excitement that grew out of Vatican II. The art that grew out of these peoples' ability to re-examine their faith and embrace it, has come to symbolize that time period in church history the same way gothic cathedrals symbolize the age of faith, or the mosaics at Ravena symbolize the early Church's public declaration of faith.
The windows are meant to tell a story of humankind's movement from darkness into light, from sin to salvation. Dark blues and reds dominate the western windows, with the colors gradually progressing to the whites and golds seen behind the altar and Resurection Crucifix.

I guess what I'm saying is that they grow on you after awhile. They look different at different times of the day. I hope you can visit again.
