This comes down, in my opinion, to "letter of the law/spirit of the law". The law (GIRM actually) says no flowers decorating the altar. GIRM is silent on branches, bushes, banners, and bulbs that have not yet flowered. So you have met the letter of the law. Now some who will extend abstaining from meat (the letter of the law) to the avoidance of non-meat delicacies (such as lobster) are entitled to do so but they don't have cause to criticize those who observe just the letter of the law (no meat on the table, no flowers 'round the altar).

Of course, you will strip the altar and the sanctuary of all decorations after the Mass of the Lord's Supper on Holy Thursday and the starkness of the altar on Good Friday will be all the more striking because it will be more severe than it has been during Lent.
